Common questions
How do I add a book?
Open the Books tab and tap the +. You can search by title or author, scan a book's barcode with your camera, or enter a book by hand.
What's the difference between Libraries and Tags?
Libraries are your visual shelves on the Library tab. Tags are quick labels on the Books tab for organizing. A book can belong to several of each.
How do reading sessions and app blocking work?
Start a timed session from a book you're currently reading. The timer can block the distracting apps you choose using Apple's Screen Time controls. You grant that permission yourself and can change it anytime in iOS Settings.
Is my reading data private?
Yes. SlowRead is local-first — your library, shelves, and reading history live on your device, not on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I import my Goodreads books?
Yes. Export your Goodreads library as a CSV, then import it from Settings. You can choose which shelves become Libraries or Tags before importing.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple. To view, change, or cancel your subscription, open the iOS Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and select SlowRead. Refunds are handled by Apple through their standard refund process.
Deleting your data
Your reading data is stored on your device and is removed when you delete the app. If you created an account, you can delete it from within the app, or email us to request deletion.
